Leap
In The Dark
Julie Dougherty ©2004
There's
a cat way up in a tree looking down at the ground
I wonder if she can find her way down
Did she go too far this time? Is she in over her head?
She could find herself stranded up there, she could fall to her
death
It's not that they didn’t warn her, it's not that they didn't
say
You keep taking risks like that you could lose your way
Storm clouds gather as she clings to the bark
Now the limb is letting go, time to leap in the dark
Corporate man in his big office looking down from his high-rise
Feels the burden of his Midas touch and the need to downsize
He longs for the feel of wheel on open highway
To move to the Gulf of Mexico
So with Wall Street looming in his rear-view mirror
This time he'll go
It’s not that they didn’t warn him, it’s not that
they didn't say
You keep taking risks like that you could lose your way
Storm clouds gather as his ignition sparks
Feels his limbs letting go, time to leap in the dark
They say change can't be halted, it's like the pulling of the tide
We fall, then we land on our feet, just like that cat with nine
lives
I know we must deal here in this world arranging parts into whole
A leap of faith could break your bones, but it just might restore
your soul
It's
not that they didn’t warn us, it’s not that they didn't
say
We keep taking risks like that, we could lose our way
Storm clouds gather, we're still clinging to the bark.
Now the limb is letting go, time to leap in the dark
