Don't Lean On It
Julie Dougherty ©2004

I felt it in the breeze last night
An excitement that blew right through my senses
It was riding in on the wind again
Knocking down my guard and all my fences

Chorus:
It may look solid but don’t lean on it, don’t lean on it
It might look good and strong but don’t lean on it,
don’t lean on it
It could fall down all around you, don’t lean on it,
don’t lean on it
It’s just too good to be true

In a house full of ghosts and spirits
The memories come right back to me
Of trust, betrayal and forgiveness
I might look strong but can’t you see?

Chorus

I want to soar high above the railings
That keep me back from pastures green and unknown
Find some poetry in my failings
Believe in faith and love, secure and home
Winging wildly, racing toward the sun
With battle-scars, none the worse for wear
A little soldier answering the call
I fight the war on my own despair

Chorus
