Brave

We spent our youth running day in and day out
So oblivious to the treasures all around us
Overworked, over time, over faith and doubt
Then you called that day to say there was something wrong
Why is it so headstrong and headlong into your prime?
Now all you really want is time

You’re so brave, you ride this wave of uncertainty
With so much strength and dignity
Won’t you save a place for me beside you
My friend, my friend, when my time here is through

Life’s an odyssey of zig-zagged roads
Through stupidity and profundity and highs and lows
Time gets wasted, dreams are lost and found
And with luck our chaotic landings leave us on solid ground
But how short your journey by harsh omission
Your path lay before you without your permission

You’re so brave, you ride this wave of uncertainty
With so much strength and grace and dignity
Won’t you save a place for me beside you
My friend, my friend, when my time here is through

Marci, you loved your life and you had a clear view
To surround yourself with those you loved
And all that was beautiful to you and you said,
“What more is there to this life than the sum of these parts?”
Aperennial garden of dear, enduring hearts
